The Visual Scrapbook of Photographer

Finishing Touches commission

I’ve been working with Finishing Touches since 2012 when they became the primary sponsor for my exhibition Uncovered. Myself and co-exhibitor at the time, Agata Cardoso, approached Finishing Touches because of the work that they do to help those affected by alopecia and breast cancer. After interviewing and photographing so many people affected by alopecia for my project Alopecia Uncovered I was really moved by how much semi permanent tattooing and other procedures can positively impact a person’s well-being. When I spoke to women about the loss of their eyebrows they often felt that having them tattooed back on gave them a sense of relief (no worries about their makeup rubbing off) and also that it took attention away from people staring.

A lot of my work is focused on exploring complex emotional terrains and using photography to help people overcome their difficulties. I was thrilled when Finishing Touches got in contact and commissioned me to shoot their new campaign and marketing images. I was honoured to work with three patients who were having medical procedures done to help with their scarring. I always feel so privileged to have access to intimate moments in someone’s life and seeing the impact of these treatments on people’s confidence and well-being is breathtaking.

Here are a selection of images from the commission.
